There will be a complete network outage at SLAC from August 9 (15:00 PST)
until August 11. This will make the CVS and Web servers for LCD, AIDA, JAS
and FreeHEP in accessible during this time.

> SCS will be upgrading transformers and installing Seismic bracing of it's
main power substation during the summer downtime. This will cause a complete
computing outage of all services including on and offsite network
connectivity beginning at approximately 3pm Friday August 9th until Sunday
August 11th evening. This is necessary since the work to be performed
requires all power to be shut down in the computer building. We will be
providing power to the Central SLAC phone system and voice mail should be
unaffected. Thank you for your co-operation. Questions can be referred to
John A. Weisskopf / Building Manager at ext. 3188.
> Background: SLAC computing has suffered three major outages in the last
two years due to failure (with associated smoke/fire) of transformer
components. The old transformers are underrated for today's computer loads
and must be replaced to assure reliability, safety and capacity for the
future.
