Randy reported on US ATLAS Tier 2 workshop in Chaicago earlier this month. There were 20-25 people in attendance. This is the first such workshop. Next one probably in August at BNL. Randy suggested Booker, Wei, Chuck may want to join him next time. There are weekly phone meeting of T2 people.

T2 responsibilities are MC production and analysis. dCache is the presumed method for data distribution. Chuck asked what are the functionalities, and whether we can provide the same thing in another way, e.g. with xrootd. Each T2 is expected to have ~5 TB for every 100 CPU, or have a very fat pipe to BNL.

T2 sites often lack expertise to deal with problems with DQ2 and Panda. Lack of response to problem reports. Some site have given root access to experts to solve problems. Panda acts like a job scheduler, running under the local batch system. Pilot jobs would contact the master at run time to figure out what to do. Additional features are being added to Panda for accounting, etc. There are several parallel efforts on accounting.

ATLAS code needs 2 GB of memory. This is in disagreement with ATLAS testing reports. Must be sorted out so we know what to specify in our next purchase.

There are 3 Analysis Support Centers (ASC) at BNL, Argonne and LBNL. Argonne is active in SW development. SW T2 uses Twiki for local information sharing. NE T2 has proposed that US T1/T2 use HyperNews for communication. This is to be hosted at BNL. Shawn McKee is the US ATLAS guru on networking. He has asked for detailed network maps and plans. People are advised to use kernel version 2.6.13 or better. There is patch from Pittsburg Supercomputing Center for open SSH.

OSG should be at 0.4.1. We are at 0.4.

BNL expects to ship 2 x 1.6 TB a day to each T2 site during the current/upcoming service challenge. Some of us don't understand why there is that much to ship in this direction this soon.

Resource Allocation Committee (for US T1 and T2) wants to know the current and projected hardware inventory of each site.
