Dear Colleagues,
In ceremonies at Darmstadt, Germany, this week, the construction phase
of the Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR) was started. The
facility will produce intense, high-energy beams of ions and antiprotons.
It is expected to cost a total of €1.2 billion ($1.75 billion), the
majority of which will come from the German national government and the
state of Hesse, with the remainder coming from a number of international
partners.
