===========================================================
The Second Bulletin of
Technology and Instrumentation in Particle Physics, TIPP09
===========================================================

This is the second bulletin of the first international conference on
Technology and Instrumentation in Particle Physics, TIPP09, to be held
from 12 to 17 March 2009 at Epochal Tsukuba, Tsukuba, Japan.

Dear Colleagues,
We are happy to announce the Web registration page for TIPP09 is
now open at http://tipp09.kek.jp Please register before January 31st
to take advantage of the early registration fee. The Web registration
is available until February 28th. However, the Web registration page
might be closed earlier if the number of the registrants reaches to
the maximum capacity of 450 people. We encourage you to register and
book your hotel rooms early.

Although we expressed our invitation-only policy for the
conference participants in the first bulletin, we have changed it for
easier access from any part of the globe. Anyone who wishes to attend
the conference can make a registration. An individual who needs a
formal invitation letter for VISA application to enter Japan, may
contact us at [log in to unmask] after completion of his/her
registration and payment.

We have also started to accept the abstract of your contribution
papers through the Web site http://tipp09.kek.jp. The dead line for
the abstract submission is October 31st. The abstracts will be
reviewed by the appropriate conveners and assigned to relevant oral/
poster sessions if accepted. The corresponding author will be notified
about abstract acceptance as oral/poster contribution via email by
around December 10th.

The Proceedings of the conference will be published.

As for the scientific program, time allocation to parallel and
plenary sessions has been fixed, and now we are on process of
selection for the plenary speakers. We will announce the plenary
speakers shortly.

Following is the list of the parallel sessions;
1) Gaseous detectors
2) Semiconductor detectors
3) Calorimeters
4) Particle identification and photon detectors
5) Experimental detector systems
6) Astrophysics and space instrumentation
7) Instruments for non-accelerator physics
8) Front-end electronics
9) Trigger and data acquisition systems
10) Accelerator and beam instrumentation
11) Instrumentation for medical, biological and materials research

Short lecture course for young students: March 14 (Sat)
We will have a course of lectures on particle detector technology
for young students. Distinguished experts participating the conference
will explain from basic phenomena of particle interaction with
material to their application to the most advanced detector development.

Social Events
Many attractive social programs are planned.
A) Bunraku puppet play: March 13(Fri) 18:00-19:30
We enjoy a Bunraku Puppet Play (or Ningyo Joruri) which is said to
have been performed from the late seventeenth century. In late
eighteenth century people in Shirai village near Tsukuba started to
play Bunraku by themselves for their festival. The play was once
diminished in 1920, but is rebuilt recently. You can also enjoy
Shamisen sound and classic songs.
(see http://www.geocities.jp/makabeshiraiza/index.html [Japanese]
http://www.bunraku.or.jp/ [Japanese/English] )

B) Excursion: March 15 (Sun)
We will make one-day trip on Sunday, March 15 as the TIPP09 excursion.
Three tours, to the sights of Japanese tradition, are being arranged.
These sights are easily accessed from Tsukuba, and March is the best
season to visit there. Each tour will be escorted by an English-
speaking guide and operated with a chartered coach.

1) Mito-Kasama (beautiful garden with Japanese plum trees in full
blossom, famous shrine and pottery),
2) Nikko (famous shrine built in honour of the first Tokugawa Shogun),
and
3) Narita-Kashima (historically noted temple and shrines).
Please note that the excursion is NOT included in the registration
fee. Those who would like to join one of the excursions should visit
the registration site and make reservation and payment.

C) Programs for accompanying persons
-Kimono trial: March 13 (Fri) 10:00-12:00
-Tea ceremony: March 14 (Sat) 10:00-12:00
We have a demonstration of how to dress in Kimono, a beautiful
traditional garment and Japanese tea ceremony. Try on "Kimono" and
discover Chanoyu. Let's take photos, together. Please enjoy all of
these well-known Japanese cultures. Please note each of these sessions
asks a small fee of 2,000 yen. The registration and payment can be
made at the conference reception desk.
