The Japanese government recently created the "Government Revitalization
Unit", chaired by Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama to re-evaluate
government-funded programs, including many prominent science projects.
The IPMU (Institute for the Physics and Mathematics of the Universe)
has a news release titled "Japan reversing its globalization effort in
science" with an overview of this process and some of the initial
