Hi Adrian,
The particular issue you point out is controlled by your local admin or who
ever initially setup the installation. Compression and the like are not part
of xrootd and are external services that were enabled by the installer. Who
is responsible for Alice sites?
Andy

Subject: xrootd logs :: not follow of sym links
Hi! i use a common folder for logs that keeps the logs and logsbackup
directory .. this 2 dirs are sym linked in xrdserver directory.
the problem is that in logsbackup now i have a lot of .tar.gz files
which contains the log symlink!
another questions:
1. why is it compressed all directory of log and not only the files
{cms, xrd}log.`date +%Y%m%d` ? is there a use of compressing also the
current used {cms,xrd}log ?
2. why is used the gz and not bz2? (bz2 having much better compression
than gz)
3. where is defined this archival procedure? one might want to change
the command in using pbzip2 (in order to use all available cores and
speed up the process)
the xrootd version is the ALICE one
Thanks!
Adrian
