Hello Matt,

One little tidbit that is often quite useful is that at Jlab there exists a machine: cvs.jlab.org, which plays by different firewall rules than login.jlab.org. If you ssh there, you can use an ssh key rather than being forced a password as with login.jlab.org. Of course, you get an even more crippled zsh shell once you've done that.

The cvs.jlab.org is useful because it allow access to the Jlab cvs repositories. It is also useful because it allows password free (ssh key driven) scp transfers. I don't know how it behaves if you run "cvs" from this system, but since you cannot even cd to a different directory, my guess is that it is a bit useless.

Another system: clas12svn.jlab.org, is setup to host the CLAS svn repositories. It does not allow anonymous access, it will ask for your CUE login credentials.

Best,
	Maurik

You can get around this by setting up an ssh tunnel through a more accommodating machine. For example, to do this for the freehep cvs, first log into (e.g.) jlabl4 and do:

If you need access to it, let FX know and he'll put your ssh public_id key into the list (there is no password, at least as far as we are concerned). I think this is intended to be the "official" user for hps stuff...we'll put code releases under this user and run production from this account.

This is probably the place to keep the releases (backed up, visible all over). We should discuss how this is going to work and where to put things. We can also check-out and build everything; I've installed maven (and netbeans) and you can find them in ~clashps/bin.
