Update of bug #88357 (project xrootd):
Severity: 2 - Minor => 3 - Normal
Status: Fixed => None
Open/Closed: Closed => Open

Follow-up Comment #1:
We were still seeing this with 3.2.2 (as used by CASTOR at CERN) and 3.2.5
(as used by EOS), meaning a few thousand mails until the daemons got
restarted and the resulting overlapping files got sorted.. while the
compressing cron job certainly is our own problem, I don't think xrootd ought
to deal itself with the complexities of "summer" vs "winter" in the various
jurisdictions (which sometimes change rather last-minute).
Instead I would propose to have the usual SIGHUP=="close your log, re-open
it"-semantic at least as an option, and leave the problem of when to do this
to some external program such as logrotate.
