Hi Andy,
Different config knob. Look at "/proc/self/limits"; you're looking at the
system-wide max, David was talking about the per-user max.
When we hit this in Condor (which heavily uses processes) or HDFS, we just
include an entry in /etc/security/limits.d to increase the limit for that
specific user:
[root@red-d8n12 ~]# tail -n 2 /etc/security/limits.d/hdfs.conf
hdfs - nofile 32768
hdfs - nproc 65536
Lukasz could do the same for Xrootd.
