Hello Nikolai,
There is no overlap of the calorimeters with the nozzle in the present design. However, Tom has a point
which I missed in my reply. In order to be able to open the detector endcaps, the smallest inner radius
of the endcap calorimeters has to be larger than the largest outer radius of the cone. The tapered design
which we now have does not satisfy this criterion. We could get around this by having the tapered portion
of the calorimeters attached to the masks, forming a cylindrical "instrumented" mask, over which the
outer endcap calorimeters would slide. This would require some cracks and uninstrumented support
material. We should keep that in mind as we proceed.
Hans, let me know if I can be of any assistance in implementing the solenoid.
Norman

Hi all,

I am just back at Fermilab and will be again away next week.

As a result of our iterations with Hans, there is no any overlapping of the detector components with the nozzle (as designed by me on 3/25/13, attached) and final focus quads (their outer radius inside the detector is R=50.2 cm).

Cheers,
                       Nikolai

Hi Tom

The drawing below doesn't represent the actual detector. The inner radius is not
constant for this shape but increases with z like a horn.
But I only allowed space for the tungsten cones. If we need more space for the
magnets its no problem to implement it.

thanks for looking at it

Hans

Hi again,

Looking a little further it seems like the inner radius of the EC Ecal (now 38cm) and the EC Hcal (now 39cm) must be increased to match the EC Muon System/return yoke at r_min=53cm.

See figure:

Hi Hans,

In reviewing the compact.xml file I see that no space has been defined for the coil package to produce the 5T field.

In SiD the package is 82.5cm thick with an ID of 5.2m. It sits in a reserved volume of 82.8cm.

For MCD, the # amp-turns will need to scale by the area ratio: (6/5.2)^2=1.33.

I am informed that the #strands of SC cable (40) in the CMS coil package is maxed out so you will need 33% more turns; the coil cannot carry more current.

I believe there are 6 layers of coil in the SiD design at 60mm each, so to a first approximation the coil package width will grow by 120mm to 94.5cm in say a 95cm gap.

Tom

mcdrcal01.tgz

saved in MAP/detector/detector-HF/

Hi

attached you find the tar file with the new muon collider detector data.

Changes are:

- tracker layout as sent out by Ron Lipton last week.

- since the tracker is bigger the tracking region is increased and the

calorimeter are moved

   to higher radius.

- I fixed a bug modeling the borated polyethylene layer that Nikolai

Terentiev pointed out to me.

have a look at the compact.xml file as it's the easiest file to read

and let me know if things look ok.

The files are all in the LCDetectors CVS repository. I am now simulating

Higgs events with the latest version of slic available on mcdrd.

I will send mail when the files are available.

cheers Hans
