Dear Colleagues,

Sally Dawson asked Chip and me about policy for authorship and reference for the working group reports. Here is some guidance; I hope it is useful.

Some time ago, we sent you a LaTeX template for the working group reports. This template includes an author list with conveners at the top and then a list of additional authors, which can be arbitrarily long. Chip and I would like you to invite everyone who has contributed to the study to be an author. This would include people who sent you white papers and people who gave talks at your meetings. We hope that you will send a message to your snowmass-xx@slac mailing inviting "any of you who have done work that contributes to the study" to be an author. This follows the usage of previous Snowmass meetings, when everyone who came to the working group meetings at Snowmass was listed as an author.

As we have said before, the conveners are responsible for the conclusions of their working group report. If people do not want to sign because they do not agree with the conclusions, that is their option. However, Chip and I hope that you will circulate a draft of your report to your working group mailing list well before Minnesota and react to the comments that come back.

As for references, our guidance is that only directly relevant references should be included. Please do not try to be comprehensive in your reference lists.

If you have any questions about this guidance, please raise them at tomorrow's phone meeting. If you have lost the LaTeX template, please write to me and I will resend it.

Thank you,

Michael
