Dear all,
I am working with Tony Limonsani of COEPP/NeCTAR Cloud Project in Australia. We are setting up
the storage for the COEPP users in the Australian NeCTAR cloud project. These users include both
ATLAS experimentalists and non-ATLAS theorists. Many of the users will be running software that
does not user ROOT, but instead opens and closes files in a file system. (local or NFS).
The NeCTAR cloud has serveral different Cloud centers spread across Australia and these sites have
computing and/or storage and usually both. We are considering a design where each cloud site
has both persistent (Static) storage and dynamic (Cache) storage. I am attaching a picture that
explains the storage design at each site. We expect to federate all of the storage sites through an
Australian wide redirector. Within a site we federate the static and cache storage together through
a site meta manager. On a client machine we mount the static redirector and the cache
redirector using fuse and xrootdfs on two separate mount points. We can see the data on the
cache disk servers through one mount point and the data on the persistent disk servers through
the other mount point. When we try to use the site meta manager to see the files on all disk servers
within the site through one mount point, we can not see any data files. We can use xrdcp
referencing the site meta manager top copy a file out. Yet the xrootdfs mount using the meta manager
does not let us see or copy the files. Is there any way to allow fuse/xrootdfs to see the files
through the meta manager.
Any help would be good. I hope that this mail is not too confusing.
Cheers
Doug
