Xrootdfs should work well on local storage. I would like to be a little cautious to run xrootdfs on top of a FAX-like setup. If your global cloud uses N2N, you should check if the N2N support directories. Also, what if one of the cloud members go offline? In that case, xrootdfs will hang (btw, I still think this feature you requested back in 2009 is a valid one).
I thought a redirector can report to two upper level redirectors…
