Hi,
The logging format I have currently set in hps-java as the default results in single line messages like the following:
2015-11-06 18:06:54 [CONFIG] org.hps.crawler.DatacatCrawler parse :: parsing command line options
So the format is basically:
date time [level] source :: message\nexception
Military time is used for disambiguation so that am/pm need not be included.
If there was an exception included it will be included in the next line.
Having the full log record on a single line I find helpful when using grep and other tools like awk.
Anyone have any opinions here about what this should look like? It is very easily changed now using a properties file in hps-java so please let me know.
Also, it is very easy now to add "custom" logging configurations for various tasks like batch running, interactive development, etc. so if some additional options are desired here also please tell me what you'd like to see. For instance, perhaps for interactive development it would be helpful to have a logging config where dates aren't included in the output, etc.
