Hi all test facilities users and friends

What follows is an announcement from the VUE center. There are fantastic new web resources for users and other people coming to SLAC: https://vue.slac.stanford.edu. This page is now linked to from the FACET&TF webpage http://facet.slac.stanford.edu.

---
VUE Center missive https://intranet.slac.stanford.edu/news/2016/06/vue-center%E2%80%99s-coming-slac-site-has-launched :

SLAC has now launched its "Coming to SLAC" site as part of ongoing efforts to improve the onboarding experience for visitors, users and new employees.

What is the purpose of the new site?

Over the years, we've received feedback from our guests and employees on the inconsistency of information being provided across the laboratory's sites about what a person needs to know to come here. This has led to the facilities and individual directorates creating their own collections of information for their visitors and users over time. With the help of staff from across the laboratory, "Coming to SLAC" now consolidates information previously scattered among the various web pages, providing a one-stop-shop for such common information as site access requirements, maps and directions, accommodations, services for foreign nationals, and dining options.

"Coming to SLAC" also enhances connectivity to user resources (including the new user portal platform for facility users), SLAC events, and prospective and new employee resources like the careers site and the "Careers at SLAC" Welcome Center. The user portal, which is an essential part of a facility user's experience, has also been redesigned over the last year to be responsive and simple and to provide one source of information about the common pre-, during and post-experimental actions. Facility-specific information will still be maintained on each facility's site.

How do I get to it?

The "Coming to SLAC" site is accessible from the SLAC public website's home page, and needs no credentials to access it. Redirects will be placed on certain existing pages that once contained information now hosted on the "Coming to SLAC" site. Related sites, such as facility user resources, the user portal, the "Careers at SLAC" Welcome Center and the travel office, will link to the relevant "Coming to SLAC" pages and, over time, any remaining legacy material on SLAC web pages will be removed or updated accordingly.

How can I and others provide feedback?

At the bottom of each page is a site feedback form, which anyone can complete to suggest new content or features, advise us of any errors or issues using the site, etc. Feedback will then be reviewed and prioritized for implementation, if applicable.

It's a public site, so what does it mean for me?

We ask that you look through your own department websites, templates and materials and update any links related to the information now hosted on "Coming to SLAC" (and if necessary, remove any duplicate information on your own pages).

What's next?

Just because the site has launched doesn't mean we're done. In addition to improving the information provided to people coming to SLAC, the VUE Portal Project is underway. This initiative is engaging representatives from across the lab to look at the various ways in which we bring people here, evaluate what works and what needs to be improved, and to recommend a path forward for streamlining that experience. More information on the project will be available in the near future on the forthcoming "Improvement and Collaboration Ledger" on SLAC Today, as Chi-Chang mentioned in his most recent all-hands meeting.

Cheers,
-Christine
