Dear Colleague,

As you may know, we are planning the Americas Workshop on Linear Colliders. The recently released European Strategy for Particle Physics emphasized that the study of the properties of the Higgs particle was of highest importance and that the construction of the International Linear Collider in Japan would be compatible with their plans. At around the same time, ICFA, the International Committee on Future Accelerators took the initiative to change the structure of its support for the a linear collider from the Linear Collider Collaboration and the Linear Collider Board to an International Development Team (IDT). The goal of the IDT is to prepare for an ILC Pre-Lab in Japan. This phase, expected to last 1-1.5 years is intended to be a precursor to eventual formation of the ILC construction project.

During the course of this year, planning exercises in all American sub-regions, Canada, Latin America and the U.S.A., have been initiated. We would like to ensure that as many physicists as possible are aware of the U.S planning process (Snowmass 2021) which is guided by the American Physical Society, Division of Particles and Fields, with support from other divisions. Professor Alain Bellerive is representing ILC in the Canadian Planning Process, Professor Marta Losada is leading the Latin American Planning, and Professor Meenakshi Narain, Brown U. is one of the Snowmass Energy Frontier Convenors.

The studies of electron-positron colliders fall under the rubrik of the Energy Frontier aspect of the Snowmass 2021 process, see:https://snowmass21.org/ ,https://snowmass21.org/energy/start ; A program of studies was developed by a team of ILC experts and is posted on the archives:https://arxiv.org/abs/2007.03650 . A planning meeting hosted by Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory will be held October 5-8 [ Virtual Snowmass Community Planning Meeting: October 5-8, 2020 (Program and Registration)].

Further, the Americas Linear Collider Workshop 2020, October 19-22 hosted virtually by SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory would welcome your participation. They have invited a presentation on the Latin American planning process and also from Canada. Professor Jim Brau, U. Oregon and Professor Andrew White, U. Texas-Arlington are co-chairs of the Program Committee and Professor Michael Peskin, SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is the Local Organizer of the conference. The AWLC2020 has posted a website, which is still under construction but which explains the schedule of the workshop, which is designed to accommodate as many relevant time zones as possible. At that web site,https://conf.slac.stanford.edu/awlc2020/ you can already register and see the planned program for the plenary sessions.

We believe that the developments outlined above could presage a quite dramatic evolution in the scope of experimental particle physics opportunities available in the upcoming decades. This opportunity should be seen, especially by our younger colleagues, as a great challenge. There is the potential to participate in construction, to develop the physics program, plan the detectors, and to conduct the experiments and to participate in unique, groundbreaking research; in short to create something very new and very exciting.

We cordially invite you to participate in the AWLC 2020 workshop October 19-22, 2020.

With Best Regards,
Hugh Montgomery, on behalf of the AWLC organizers
