I've been unable to get asc2root to parse my fastMC ascii output. I'll
keep plugging away. It is screwing up spectacularly!
I have all the Large and Small (~1500 events total) files rooted. I
took a quick look at one of the root files and it seems OK. I have run
off 5k each of 20 GeV electrons and pions into both detectors. The pions
have been rooted. An odd thing happened with one of them: at one point
in the ascii file, the remainder of the file was zillions of '@'s! I
assume some glitch in the file system or something. Needless to say,
asc2root wasn't pleased. I edited out the '@'s and then it parsed fine
(but only got 3.6k events). Oh. The electrons blew the 34k seconds CPU
limit on Solaris. Don't really know how many events I got yet.
Joanne is working away on the fastMC calorimeter smear; Rob on the
fullSim cluster cheater. I have put out the tracking smears for fastMC
and fullRecon in the $NLDROOT/root area in AFS. Tony has a Java version
of the track smear and perhaps the calorimetry too (dunno).
For Monday's tutorial, I'm assuming Tony will show off various aspects
of JAS (fastMC, event display, analysis of some of the datasets). I was
thinking we could demonstrate running Gismo and also look at some of the
root files.
I am working on my intro talk for Monday morning; Tony will give an
intro to the JAS stuff.
