For debugging on Solaris (the only platform on which we've had a chance
to build all the facilities within the RootApps package) it was necessary
to compile with no optimization. I had intended to change the default
compile option to use optimization, but didn't get to it. There is
a symbol OPTIMIZE defined in RootApps/Common/V1.0/bld/Makefile.common
and used in all compile commands. It's defined on a per-platform basis.
The version of this file in the distribution has
OPTIMIZE =
for Solaris. It should have been changed to
OPTIMIZE = -O
As stated in the README for the distribution, local installers for
other platforms will have to modify Makefile.common in any case; while
they're at it they should choose a suitable value for OPTIMIZE.
It should also be possible to override the value of OPTIMIZE when invoking
make, e.g.
gmake OPTIMIZE='-O'
