To: The Particle Physics Community From: Jonathan Dorfan, Maury Tigner, Mike Witherell For the last several years studies of the physics and detectors for a linear collider have been organized within the framework of the "Worldwide Study of the Physics and Detectors for Future Linear e+e Colliders" (URL=http://lcwws.physics.yale.edu/lc/). Charlie Baltay and Paul Grannis have been leading the American effort,and they have contributed significantly to the development of a consensus at Snowmass 2001 in support of a future linear collider and they have provided crucial input to the HEPAP Subpanel, which recently recommended that the Linear Collider be the top priority future project for the US HEP program. We are grateful to Charlie and Paul for their excellent leadership. Now that Charlie and Paul have asked to be relieved of this responsibility, a new team has been formed to maintain coordination of the North American LC Physics and Detector activities. The new team is headed by: Jim Brau (University of Oregon, [log in to unmask]), and Mark Oreglia (University of Chicago, [log in to unmask]). Jim and Mark will be supported by an executive committee: Ed Blucher (University of Chicago, [log in to unmask]), Dave Gerdes (University of Michigan, [log in to unmask]), Lawrence Gibbons (Cornell, [log in to unmask]), Dean Karlen (Carleton University, [log in to unmask]), Young-Kee Kim (University of California, Berkeley, [log in to unmask]), Jeff Richman (University of California, Santa Barbara, [log in to unmask]), Rick Van Kooten (Indiana University, [log in to unmask]). As we move forward toward the physics program of a high luminosity, high energy linear collider, it is crucial that the preparation for the experiments keep pace with the accelerator developments. In the next couple of years the open issues regarding the detectors and the physics need to be resolved and the planning for the experiments must mature. This is being done in the context of very active international contacts. The new leadership team will be working with the American community to coordinate our efforts toward maximal progress based on a coherent and focused effort, and to strengthen our interactions and progress within the larger international community.
