Motivation 
---------- 

  The international consensus within the particle physics community 
 is that the next accelerator should be a linear e+e- collider. 
 This school is intended to give students and postdoctoral researchers 
 a detailed grounding in the physics potential of a linear e+e- collider. 
 Topics covered will include Higgs, Electroweak, Supersymmetry and 
 Two Photon Collider physics. 

  The school will take place in Ambleside, in the heart of the Lake 
 District. The primary point of contact is the web site where you will 
 find the registration form. 



Programme 
--------- 

  The program consists of a series of lectures designed to give a 
 thorough introduction to the physics potential of a linear collider. 
 There will also be an opportunity for those attending to make a short 
 presentation of their work. The registration form provides a space for 
 you to indicate a title for your talk in this case. The lectures will 
 be published in electronic form. 



Fees 
---- 

  The fee for the school will be 330 pounds.  There will be a discount 
 of 30 pounds for registration and payment of fees before June 30. 
 There is also a discount of 30 pounds for people choosing to share a 
 room.  The price for accompanying persons is 250 pounds.  It is 
 possible to arrive on Saturday 16th August (30 pounds).  Information 
 on how to pay is available on the web site. 

  A small number of bursaries are available in the form of partial or 
 full reduction of the conference fee.  The decision as to who should 
 receive these will be made by the organising committee.  If you wish 
 to be considered please state your case when registering. 

  The fee covers six nights accommodation from Sunday, 17 August to 
 Saturday 23 August, full English breakfast, morning and afternoon 
 coffee/tea and biscuits.  Sandwiches and light snacks can be 
 purchased at the conference centre, and the accommodation includes a 
 shared kitchen area which students may use.  Many traditional pubs, 
 coffee shops and restaurants can be found in the centre of Ambleside 
 which is a few minutes walk away. 



How to get to Ambleside 
----------------------- 

  Ambleside is in the heart of the Lake District, in North West 
 England.  The conference will be held at the Lake District Conference 
 Centre, University College of St. Martin, Ambleside Campus, Ambleside, 
 Cumbria, LA22 9BB. Tel. +44-15394-30217. The campus is located on the 
 right hand side of the road just after leaving the town centre in the 
 direction of Rydal, directly opposite the main Police Station. Note 
 that this was formerly known as Charlotte Mason College so if you need 
 to ask locals/taxi drivers for directions the may still know it by the 
 old name. 

  The Conference Centre reception is open 24 hours a day.  Most people 
 are expected to arrive on Sunday 17th August, but the rooms are 
 available from Saturday 16th August at an additional charge of 30 
 pounds for those who wish to arrive earlier. 

Rail 
---- 

  The nearest train station is in Windermere, about 5 miles (8 km) from 
 Ambleside, with connections from Oxenholme station which is on the 
 main London Euston - Glasgow line.  You can take either a local bus 
 (``Stagecoach Cumberland'', approximately every half hour) or a taxi 
 to Ambleside. The bus fare is about 1.50 pounds each way and the taxi 
 fare is roughly 6 pounds. Connections between your starting point and 
 Windermere can be found by visiting the National Rail Web page which 
 can be reached via a link on the School's web page. 

Air - Manchester 
---------------- 

  By far the closest and most convenient airport is Manchester 
 Airport. From the airport you can take a train to Windermere.  The 
 train journey takes 2 - 3 hours, depending on a connection, and the 
 return fare is currently 27 pounds 60 p.  The train connection times 
 can be found in the National Rail Web page - type Manchester Airport 
 and Windermere as the initial and final points.  See the section 
 above for information about how to get from Windermere to Ambleside. 

Air - Liverpool 
--------------- 

 There are now a few low cost services to Liverpool Airport from 
 Europe (For example Easyjet).  From the airport take the bus to 
 Liverpool Lime Street central station and then a train to Windermere. 

Road 
---- 

 If you come by car you will approach via the M6 motorway.  If 
 travelling from the south, leave the motorway at junction 36 and take 
 the A591 (following signs to Keswick).  The A591 forms the main road 
 through Ambleside and the campus is located on the right hand side of 
 the road just after leaving the town centre, directly opposite the 
 main Police Station. If coming from the north leave the M6 at 
 junction 40 (Penrith) and take the A66 for Threlkeld, 
 St. John's-in-the-Vale and the A591 to Ambleside. Parking on site 
 will be available and is free.

 The conference is part of the ECFA programme agreed at the Amsterdam 
 meeting in April 2003. It is being organised by the Lancaster
