The main problem at the moment is that we cannot guarentee that this
will be there in the /etc/services file on the machines that people use,
hence they'll see this harmless, but perhaps confusing, message.

unix-admin, is it possible to ask Redhat if they can add a line
for (x)rootd to the default /etc/services file that they ship? Note that
the line be "rootd" and not "xrootd" for backward compatibility with the
original daemon.

We could ask the Scientific Linux people to do it, but it would be best
if it was in the original RHEL builds. This doesn't solve all possible
platforms, but will solve some of the most common. (Anybody have any
idea how to get it added to the /etc/services file for MacOSX or Solaris?)

                                 thanks,
                                   Pete
