  Hi Stephen,

ROOT itself appears to provide binary builds for Solaris with "CC 5.5".

The correspondance with the actual CC version is:

  Workshop 6 - CC 5.2
  Forte 7 - CC 5.4
  Studio 9 - CC 5.6

so CC 5.5 (for which ROOT binary builds are done by Rene) is _presumably_:

    Some-Crappy-Solaris-Marketing-Name 8

Derek was going to chase this one up.

I think this only becomes an issue when BaBar moves to using ROOT5, as
at that point you will need the client from the xrootd distribution itself
(since TXNetFile will wrap the normal posix client, taken from the xrootd
distribution, instead of being the old standalone version). I imagine that
won't happen for a while.

                                   Pete
