 	Dear colleague,

 	this is to inform you that a mailing list for the
 	SiD Benchmarking group has been created, and to invite
 	you to subscribe to it. In order to do it, please
 	send an e-mail to [log in to unmask], with ONLY the
 	following included in the body of the message:

 	SUBSCRIBE sid-benchmarking <your full name>

 	Please find additional instructions on how to use
 	LISTSERV here:

 	http://listserv.fnal.gov/users.asp

 	As indicated in a previous e-mail, we are planning to
 	significantly ramp up the benchmarking effort within
 	the SiD concept, in order to most effectively face the
 	challenges of a Conceptual Design Report in the timescale
 	of about 1.5 years from now. As a reminder, please find
 	below the goals of this working group:

1) in conjunction with the detector subgroups, to develop a good
    quantitative understanding of what performance each subsystem
    must deliver to achieve the physics goals of the ILC;
2) to initiate physics analyses for a series of critical benchmark
    measurements that document the overall physics performance of SiD,
    and that can be used in the global optimization of the detector
    design;
3) to incorporate in the physics analyses as realistic a description
    of the SiD detector and background processes as possible, and to
    upgrade analysis results to include full Monte Carlo simulations
    as they become available.

 	The first step has been to establish a biweekly meeting,
 	with talks linked from the agenda server:

http://ilcagenda.cern.ch/categoryDisplay.py?categId=88

 	The next meeting will be on Oct 10, 2006 and will be
 	announced via the above mailing list.
 	A webpage with prioritized list of projects, information
 	on previous/ongoing studies, links to software tools, etc,
 	is being worked on.

 	We very much hope you will consider joining this effort.
 	Best regards,

  				Tim Barklow ([log in to unmask])
 				Aurelio Juste ([log in to unmask])
