1. DQ2 Status/Web Proxy
Nothing happened this last week, running fine.
2. Tier-2 Hardware
Waiting for information back from Sun and should then be able to
process the order. Looks like it will be for 64 X220 with AMD
2.4GHz Opterons. For storage the Sun Thumper boxes, which are 48
internal SATA disks giving 18TB usable storage, will be getting
three.
Hope to have power to hook up a least one of the storage boxes when
it arrives.
3. HPSS/gsiftp/xrootd
Have a test environment setup and sort of partial success. Can get
gsiftp to talk to the xrootd but the files do not transfer
successfully. Not sure why this is. When we write the file this way
the file gets created but the size is zero.
Also saw another plugin apart from SRB one for gsiftp. You can find
a very simple explanation on how to start from a skeleton. Wei has
a suspicion why the file size is zero.
The error message seen relates to permissions. xrootd supports
POSIX but the use might be slightly different. Need to talk to Andy
more about some of the bugs that might be causing this.
Andy mentioned that there are two ways to talk to xrootd, one is
POSIX with the pre-loading libraries. The other way is to write your
own code and link against the xrootd library. An issue with that is
that the xrootd library is C++ but gsiftp is C.
Have a good use case for this system right now. People working on
Tau trigger want to import quite a lot of data and would be useful
to just have stuff they are not using staged out to tape. Will just
import it in sections and delete stuff not in use by hand in
between.
