Dear Colleagues,

The ILC Research Director is calling now for expressions of
interest (EOIs) for submitting Letters of Intent
for developing a design for a detector at the ILC.
The revised due date for LOIs is March 31st 2009.
The International Large Detector (ILD)
detector concept study group which formed from the LDC group
and the GLD group has drafted an EOI, and it requires
a list of institutions. At this stage it is considered
healthy for institutions to be listed on more than one EOI.

This mail concerns the U.S. part of the ILD EOI institution list.
As a starting point, we have taken the list of institutions
listed on the LDC and GLD detector outline documents plus institutions
expressing interest in participating in ILD.
Please find attached the current list of U.S. institutions
and please let us know if your institution should be removed.
If you find institutions or your institution that should be added,
please let us know also.

The current draft of the EOI is brief:
"The ILD detector concept study group is planning to submit an LOI
by March 31st 2009. The list of institutions that have worked on, are
working on, or expressed interest in working on the ILD concept study
is given below. It does not indicate any financial commitments, nor
any firm commitment to perform certain tasks. The list is fluid
and will change in time."

The ILD detector concept is based on particle flow for complete event
reconstruction and a very robust and redundant tracking system for fully
exploiting the ILC physics. ILD proposes to combine a gaseous tracker
which gives a large number of true three-dimensional points with
additional silicon tracking devices. Particle flow is made possible by
a very fine-grained calorimeter for both electromagnetic and hadronic showers.
More information about ILD and opportunities to get involved in
the detector design studies including signing up to
mailing lists can be found at http://www.ilcild.org/

                 regards,
                     Graham Wilson
