Hi Everyone, Our next weekly LQS group meeting will be Thursday, Sept. 18, at 1 PM Eastern time. In addition to round-table reports (not pizza), we'll discuss the new MiniBooNE report of the first off-axis neutrino events. The paper is available at > http://arxiv.org/abs//0809.2447 > > We report the first observation of off-axis neutrino interactions in > the MiniBooNE detector from the NuMI beamline at Fermilab. The > MiniBooNE detector is located 745 m from the NuMI production target, > at 110 mrad angle ($6.3^{\circ}$) with respect to the NuMI beam > axis. Samples of charged current quasi-elastic $\nu_{\mu}$ and $\nu_e$ > interactions are analyzed and found to be in agreement with > expectation. This provides a direct verification of the expected pion > and kaon contributions to the neutrino flux and validates the modeling > of the NuMI off-axis beam. I will be at the SiD workshop at Boulder from Wednesday to Friday this week, so I may or may not be able to call in. Someone else should lead the discussion this week. Also, I'm eager to receive suggestions for other papers/topics to discuss in future meetings. Thanks much, --Ray
