Attached, please find the final version of the U.S. version of this
release, which is being jointly issued by Fermi National Accelerator
Laboratory and Brookhaven National Laboratory.

An online version of this release can be found at

Subject: Upcoming Press Release: LHC Computing Grid Ready for Data

Good afternoon,

I am writing to alert you of an upcoming press release related to the
Worldwide LHC Computing Grid (WLCG). The WLCG is the worldwide
distributing computing system that has been set up to distribute and
manage the data generated by the experiments at the Large Hadron
Collider at CERN. Your institution contributes to the WLCG, and has also
contributed to the milestone announced by this press release.

**Please note that the information, and the attached draft release, are
under embargo until issued - planned for this Wednesday, July 1**

This press release announces that the WLCG has successfully passed its
most comprehensive test to date, providing that the worldwide system -
the first of its kind - is ready to handle the estimated 15 million
gigabytes of data to be produced every year when the LHC starts running.
This was the first time that all key elements of the data distribution
and handling process were fully tested.

CERN plans to issue its release announcing the milestone this Wednesday,
July 1. If you would like to publicize your institution's involvement in
this milestone, we ask that you wait until after CERN's release has been
issued. Immediately after the CERN release is issued, the attached U.S.
version of the release will be issued jointly by Fermi National
Accelerator Laboratory and Brookhaven National Laboratory, and we will
send you an email to let you know that CERN's release and the U.S.
version have been issued.

If you have any questions regarding the release, please contact either
Rhianna Wisniewski at Fermilab ([log in to unmask]) or Kendra Snyder
([log in to unmask]) at Brookhaven Lab.

Regards,
Katie Yurkewicz
