Dear Colleagues, Nature and Science both have articles in this week's editions devoted to the President's FY2011 budget request for the sciences. Nature's editorial is titled "Stand and deliver" and starts with "Science has done well in the proposed US budget. Researchers need to justify the funding boost." The full article can be found online at: http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v463/n7281/full/463587b.html Science's "News of the Week" article is similarly titled "U.S. Budget: Science Spared From Domestic Spending Freeze-for Now" That article can be found online at: http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/full/327/5966/628 Both publications stress that these requests face considerable pressure and that researchers need to support, if not outright justify, this level of funding.
