Follow-up Comment #6, bug #84348 (project xrootd):
It's some sort of logic error happening while copying recursively from
root:// to root://. The queue still has one outstanding request hence the
close request cannot be sent, but wireshark says that the chunk in question
has indeed been transfered over the wire and ack-ed by the server.
It will probably take some time to debug it.
