OK, get me a gdb core file of the cmsd there the prep is running. The prep 
outlives the initiator because it's a background task. So, he m,ust have 
entered it at some point in the past. It just seems it can't complete.

Yes, this is always associated with slava77.

To deepen the mystery - I got in contact with Slava, and the associated 
process on cmswn1926 has been dead for days.
