I did something similar once, but I believe that skipped trying to copy via the redirector 
and instead copied directly to other data servers.

This not only skips the renaming step, it avoids the redirector's penalty of verifying 
that the destination file does not exist.  If there is enough space you can round-robin 
among the remaining dataservers.

The only other caveat would be if you need to be concerned with supporting Named spaces 
(i.e. space tokens).  If so, you will need to include the proper opaque information in the 
xrdcp command.
