CA Senior Games Championships
Sports Schedule of Events
Dear Athletes:
Happy New Year. The Bay Area Sports Organizing Committee (BASOC) is planning for the 2012 Bay Area Senior Games. The 2012 Bay Area Senior Games will also serve as the 2012 California Senior Games Championships and will be a qualifying competition for the 2013 Summer National Senior Games in Cleveland, Ohio.
We are looking forward to another great competition - The Games will feature all of the sports needed to qualify for Cleveland and the 2013 Summer National Championships. In addition, we will continue our tradition of hosting the exciting exhibition sports of water polo (men and women), fencing, soccer, lawn bowling and rugby. We are also going to offer rowing, sailing (after all, America's Cup is coming to San Francisco) Pickleball and Bocce. Pickleball, which has been added to the NSGA events for the 2013 National Championships, will be held in Pasadena in 2012.
Dates for the 2012 State Championships are March 10 - April 7 - a bit early in the California calendar -but this date will fit nicely with the annual California Senior Games calendar, give athletes a chance to see how their training is coming and perhaps, if necessary, have the chance to qualify at a second competition in California later in the year.
We will carry on our new tradition of the Solar Torch Run and add a kick off event Pasta Feed on Friday, March 9th at Stanford. Check out the photos from the first Solar Torch Run, held at Stanford this year.
New this year - we will be requiring all athletes to register on line and sign the official waiver. For those without a computer (or a grandchild and a computer) we will have two days to register at the Sports Basement in Sunnyvale. These dates will be announced soon. All paper registrations will be charged a fee of $15 for administrative costs. Thanks in advance for your understanding as we take advantage of the technology available to us.
Please sign up for our e-news; we are committed to publishing monthly to ensure that all in the Senior Games Athlete family have accurate and up to date information about Games in California and adjacent states.
And remember to "friend" us on Facebook too!
Results for 2011 State Championship competitions are posted on the web site www.bayareaseniorgames.org. Go to the sport tab, click on your sport pictogram and click on 2011 results.
In closing, thanks to all of you for your dedication to sport and competition. You are truly representative of our slogan, "the competition never ends"!
PS. As we plan for the 2012 California Senior Games State Championships, we are interested in your comments and suggestions - please send your thoughts to With thanks!
