I was advised that I should not use asynchronous io for alice installations,
but we have other servers using the very same configuration running without
problem and it's also not mentioned in the alice xrootd installation manual.
Either way, this behavior is clearly a bug either in the alice plugin or in
xrootd itself.
I will try to run without asynch io, I will report the results.
