Subject: The Crisis of Big Science and Funding for the Office of Science

Dear Colleagues,
Steven Weinberg has an interesting article titled "The Crisis of Big Science"
in the latest issue of The New York Review of Books. It can be found online
at:

http://www.nybooks.com/articles/archives/2012/may/10/crisis-big-science/

On a related note, the Senate Energy and Water Appropriations Subcommittee
approved its FY2013 Funding Bill this week.

The DOE Office of Science is to receive $4.909B, which is $35M above FY2012.

This, of course, needs to be resolved with the House Bill, which provided $4.8B.

Both funding levels are below the President's request for $4.992B.

The press release can be found at:

Sincerely,
Norman Graf
