Follow-up Comment #2, bug #95216 (project xrootd):

I won't close this just yet. I do want to warn you that IP address format is
subject to change. This will occur when IPV6 is enabled. Specifically, an
IPV4 address may be represented in IPV6 format, depending on circumstances.
The IPV6 format is

[address]

where address is either a true IPV6 colon separated address of an IPV4 mapped
address which is a combination of colons and standard dot notation. These are
standard RFC formats and plugins which use raw IP addresses must be able to
handle both formats. Notice that an IPV6 format address will *always* be
surrounded by brackets (i.e.[...]).
