Hi All,

Matt's changes to the StereoHitMaker and HelicalTrackHit did the trick; as Omar noticed, my original output only had stereo hits in layers 7, 9, and 11, but now I'm seeing them in 1, 3, and 5 as well. Thanks for the descriptions of the MatchedTracks, that's what we expected, but wanted to be sure.

I'll let you guys know if I run into any more problems.

Thanks again for all the help!
Joey

Hi,

I can't tell you exactly why no tracks are appearing, but I wouldn't read too much into the "Matched" part of it.  That's just a collection name.  These should be tracks coming out of the Seed Tracker reconstruction algorithm.  And, no, in the default reconstruction there are no other Track collections that are produced which you can use, as far as I'm aware.

To debug further, you may want to look at what tracking strategies are being used and what chi2 cuts are being applied.  Blowing this up by 10x has, in the past, allowed me to find tracks when none were showing up.  In the tracking strategies file, which in that file is listed as HPS-Test-Lyr50.xml, this is listed under the "MaxChisq" parameter for each strategy.  Sometimes this is necessary because Seed Tracker is not modeling the geometry correctly or accurately, so the errors need to be blown up to account for this.

So, I'd start by changing MaxChisq for all your strategies in that file from 25.0 to 250.0 and see if that helps.  Some of the other parameters there, such as MinHits, etc. may also be causing Tracks to be discarded if they don't pass these cuts.

Otherwise, you will need to get into the details of the tracking algorithm to figure this out.  Matt Graham is probably the best person to talk to about this.  There's a SeedTrackerDiagnostics class that looks helpful, but I've no idea how to use it.

Subject: hps-java Analysis Questions

Hi All,

We have a few questions regarding hps-java. With help from Matt, I've run a simulated LHE file through all of the usual reconstruction steps with the HPS-FullRun-Reach-2pt2 detector and the HPSTrackingBunchedMC.lcsim steering file, which calls TrackerDigiDriver and TrackerReconDriver. We're seeing HelicalTrackHits (up to 20 in some events), but no MatchedTracks. So the first question is, what exactly are MatchedTracks, and what are they matched to? Are there other types of tracks that we can look at? And the other question is, if the MatchedTracks are indeed the tracks matched to our hits, what might be the reasons that we're seeing no MatchedTracks? I'm attaching the output of running the reconstruction, in case it may be useful.

Also, with help from Norman and Jeremy, I was able to get the WIRED4 event display working in JAS version-0.9.5. Again, we're seeing plenty of hits in the tracker and no tracks, but we're also seeing a handful of RotatedHelicalTrackHits near the x axis. What exactly is the origin of these hits, and is it possible they are causing issues with constructing tracks?

Thanks!
Joey Reichert
