Follow-up Comment #3, bug #97291 (project xrootd):
For linux I believe __linux__ should be used. The following could be obsolete
already, but found on SLC5: __gnu_linux__, linux, and __linux.
I do not have access to Solaris or SunOS machines (the link below contains
snippet how to distinguish between them).
