Actually, it may matter who computes the check sum. For instance, in HDFS
file systems the check sum is maintained in an external database that a
manager node could query and return the value. That aside, it really
shouldn't matter whether a client directs the request to a manager node or a
data server. Each knows how to handle it. The submitted patch addresses this
problem.
