OK, this problem is indeed fixed in git head. It seems the patch was not marked critical because it included another less critical patch. So, indeed 3.3.2 is broken w.r.t. to xrdcp and envar setting (plus a couple of other end cases which you haven't encountered yet). I don't know if we have a 3.3.3 on schedule.
