Hi Frank, Peter,

At Snowmass the APS made 40 some short videos of folks saying why particle
physics matters to them. Most are fun to watch. A 2-min sampler of
the core statements is at

They also selected the "top five" videos and you can view and vote on them at

========================================================
Dear DPF members,

This is Kathryn Jepsen, the deputy editor of Symmetry, a magazine
about particle physics for the general public published by Fermilab
and SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory.

My colleagues and I recently asked scientists to explain--in about
a minute, in their own words--why particle physics matters. Twenty-nine
volunteers from 22 institutions stepped forward to do so on video.

You can view our top five picks and vote for the best in a contest here:
http://www.symmetrymagazine.org/contest/why-particle-physics-matters

You can see a compilation of quotes from many of the videos here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DOUbuqbf9JM&feature=c4-overview&list=UUD5B6VoXv41fJ-IW8Wrhz9A

And you can see the full playlist here:

We're hoping to encourage as many people as possible to watch these
videos, so please feel free to use any of these videos on websites
or to share them via social media. And we hope this will inspire you
to come up with your own minute-long explanation to the question:
Why does particle physics matter?

Regards,
Kathryn
