Hello Jac,

I can replicate the problem, but found only a partial solution. We'll need Jeremy's help to get this right.

Jeremy, I don't know where to add it, but is seems the libgdml simply needs to link properly with libxercesc on the Mac.

Synopsis:
When linking the library libgdml.dylib, the linking command does not include the library for xercesc, which is required by that bit of code.

Hack:
Run the linking stage "by hand":
Go to the gdml build directory ("<yourpath>/v00-00/gdml/v03-00-00/build") and execute:
"make VERBOSE=1".
This will fail with an error. Somewhere (probably at the top) of the output there will be a REALLY LONG!!!! statement, starting wit"
"/usr/bin/g++  -O2 -g -dynamiclib -Wl,-headerpad_max_install_names   -o lib/libgdml.dylib -install_name /data/HPSlcsim/slic/v00-00/gdml/v03-00-00/build/lib/libgdml.dylib ......" and ending with "...../data/HPSlcsim/slic/v00-00/geant4/9.6.p01/lib/libG4global.dylib /data/HPSlcsim/slic/v00-00/geant4/9.6.p01/lib/libG4clhep.dylib"  The PATH details will vary for your specific machine.

Copy that ENTIRE statement (probably into a file, but directly on the command line works). Then add at the very end of it (not starting a new line!) "/data/HPSlcsim/slic/v00-00/xercesc/3.1.1/lib/libxerces-c.dylib" (Again, your path will be different.)

Then execute the statement. It should produce the library in "lib".
At that point you can type "make install" and it will put that lib into the correct place.

Now you need to continue your "ilcsoft" build, going back to that directory and executing the "python ..." command.
It will ask you if you want to rebuild GDML, say "n". Then it asks you about LCDD, say "y", etc.

The build then continues to the end.

Best,
Maurik

Hello Jacopo,

What type of system are you compiling on?

The error indicates it cannot find X11. Nearly all Linux systems will have X11 installed, so in that case there is something not quite right with the Linux install. If my guess is correct and you are using a Mac, please download and install XQuarz from http://xquartz.macosforge.org/landing/

Best,
Maurik
