OK, please do close this ticket when you like.
I asked around if the ATLAS & CMS monitoring is using the r-stream, the feedback was that it's logged but not currently relied on for anything. So I've changed our dpm-xrootd documentation to remove the step of setting up the monitoring on the redirectors for now.
