I solved this problem installing Subversive - you can get it from the Eclipse Marketplace inside eclipse.
Then, with my linux installation (with mac probably itīs different) I had to install separately the SVN connectors (SVNKit), that are not automatically provided with the standard eclipse/subversion installation for linux. You can get them from http://community.polarion.com/projects/subversive/download/eclipse/3.0/kepler-site

then, if everything is ok, you should find the existing/used SVN connector listed in the SVN panel under window->Preferences->Team->SVN.
