@bbockelm : thanks for the suggestions - would prefer not to touch the VM thresholds (these are machine with lots of memory, if we flush too late we risk significant metadata loss in case of a panic). Will look at ionice, but modifying RPM-supplied scripts is not ideal, and of course with lower priority the start time of the logs will smear even worse than what we have now.
