There is something really weird going on with this. With the setup in your directory:

Broken:

]=[pią 14/01/24 09:25 CET]=[ljanyst@lxplus0026:~]
]==> xrdcp -f -np -d 1 root://castorpublic//dupa/dzwon - 2>kkk.log  > /dev/null 
]=[pią 14/01/24 09:26 CET]=[ljanyst@lxplus0026:~]
]==> less kkk.log 
"kkk.log" may be a binary file.  See it anyway? 

Fine:

]=[pią 14/01/24 09:26 CET]=[ljanyst@lxplus0026:~]
]==> xrdcp -f -np -d 1 root://castorpublic//dupa/dzwon - 2>/tmp/kkk.log  > /dev/null
]=[pią 14/01/24 09:26 CET]=[ljanyst@lxplus0026:~]
]==> less /tmp/kkk.log
