Hi,

I can't seem to SSH to either 'jlab1' or 'ifarm' from the login machine. When trying to connect to 'jlab1' it just hangs and then times out, and when I connect to 'ifarm' it immediately shuts down the connection. Should I contact the help desk about it?

Or did I miss something very basic on the JLab Sci Comp page about how to do this correctly from a new remote account?

Our Wiki/Confluence documentation lacks this basic information, so I will add information on it once I get this resolved...

If I understand correctly, you should be able from login.jlab.org to login further into ifarm using ssh ifarm or ssh ifarm.jlab.org without getting a certificate (this should be automatic, just accept the modification to the list of known hosts).
Did that fail ? If so, could you please try ssh jlabl1.jlab.org

Best regards,
FX

Hi,

I guess this is normal operations for JLab, but my shell is completely locked down when I connect to login.jlab.org. I can't even 'cd' around to look at anything.

Can you tell me how to get started here? You mentioned ifarm. Does that mean I need to setup the farm certificate as shown on the JLab Sci Comp website in order to login to one of those nodes interactively?

I confess, I'm really a bit lost here...

Thanks.

Dear Jeremy, (and others on the hps-software list who want access to clashps@jlab)

Please send me your public ssh key in your JLab CUE home directory :
~jeremym/.ssh/id_rsa.pub
I will add it to the list of authorized keys.

If the file is missing, to generate a key use :
ssh-keygen -t rsa -C "[log in to unmask]"

N.B. other users should of course replace "jeremym" with their username above.
I believe one first needs to go through ssh [log in to unmask] then ssh some other jlab machine such as ifarm????
this is because login.jlab.org will not be able to read your .ssh directory, for security purposes.

Best regards,
FX

Hi Jeremy,

For clashps, talk to F-X.

For hpdatsrv, talk to Wilko.

Cheers,
     Homer
