Hello Jeremy,
I was able to build fine on jlabl4 (3 and 4 are 64-bit machines).
The tests hung while accessing the conditions system, but the
instructions on the confluence page at
https://confluence.slac.stanford.edu/display/hpsg/JLAB+computing+resources+accessible+to+HPS
should work.

Subject: building software at JLab

Hi,

I'm a bit confused about how to build our Java software at JLab...

It seems to me that I can't do this from the jlabl1 host, which has internet access, because I get permissions errors on our Java installation.

[log in to unmask]> mvn
/home/clashps/bin/mvn: line 167: /u/group/hps/hps_soft/java/jdk1.7.0_45/bin/java: cannot execute binary file
/home/clashps/bin/mvn: line 167: /u/group/hps/hps_soft/java/jdk1.7.0_45/bin/java: Success

Maven and Java do execute fine from ifarm, but of course there is no internet access there. So that doesn't work at all for building Maven based software.

What machine am I supposed to use for executing Maven, where internet access is allowed, so that the remote repositories are available?

Thanks.
