Thanks, that fixed the problem. The only other error I am getting from the
monitoring application at the moment (at least running it locally) is the
following at the end of every run:

This is independent of the steering file and seems to be an issue with the
monitoring application not knowing how to handle the end of a file. I'm not
sure where the fix for this would be, though.
