Hello Nathan,
I think it would help to have some structure to the top-level directory as
well. Perhaps simply by date, such as

/mss/hallb/hps/data/2014
/mss/hallb/hps/data/2015
etc.

I would also like to see some date information for the processed data,
such as:

/mss/hallb/hps/2014_commissioning
/mss/hallb/hps/2015_commissioning
/mss/hallb/hps/2015_physicsrun
etc.

or

/mss/hallb/hps/2014/commissioning
/mss/hallb/hps/2015/commissioning
/mss/hallb/hps/2015/physicsrun

etc.

As for the subdirectories within, I would prefer the inverse
sorting. I'm usually interested in a specific type of processed file,
such as lcio, recon, dst. I'd like to be able to go directly there and
not have to find a directory that contains the latest pass.

so, for instance:

/mss/hallb/hps/2014/commissioning/lcio/pass0
/mss/hallb/hps/2014/commissioning/dst/pass8

etc.

Of course, if all of this is hidden from the end user behind a nice
data catalog interface then it really doesn't matter that much.

Norman

Hi Matt, and All,

/mss/hallb/hps/data
should be for the raw data evio files only, and only root has write access there.

Otherwise, a "jput" will make any subdirectories as needed, expect we need to ask for top-level subdirectories in /mss/hallb/hps.

Some good convention should be chosen before doing this, since renaming/moving stuff requires asking a system administrator.

Currently /mss/hallb/hps/production is mc, so I proposed to make /mss/hallb/hps/engrun contain subdirectories named according to the version of the real data's processing. We could start with /mss/hallb/hps/engrun/pass0; inside that can be lcio, recon, dst, ...

If that's ok, I'll ask for /mss/hallb/hps/engrun to be created.
