Hi Jeremy,

I don't think this is by design, I think that is just strange. The directories in /group/hps/... are all readable. They have "clas-4" for group id, which I have as well. But indeed, even though javac is -rwxr-x-r-x I cannot execute that file either. I can read it though...

Oh, drats, you won't believe this:

> file /group/hps/hps_soft/java/jdk1.7.0_45/bin/javac
/group/hps/hps_soft/java/jdk1.7.0_45/bin/javac: ELF 64-bit LSB executable, x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked (uses shared libs), for GNU/Linux 2.6.9, not stripped

and

>uname -a
Linux ifarm1101 2.6.32-220.7.1.el6.x86_64 #1 SMP Wed Mar 7 00:52:02 GMT 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

So Jlabl1 is NOT a 64-bit system and thus cannot execute the binary.

Best,
	Maurik
